Artistic Director

Nic Harvey

Nic was formerly the director of The Television Workshop in Nottingham, a globally-renowned, BAFTA-winning training ground for young actors from diverse backgrounds in the Midlands. His student alumni include Bella Ramsey ('The Last Of Us', 'Game Of Thrones'), Safia Oakley-Green (BIFA award-winner for 'Out Of Darkness') and Louis Greatorex ('Masters of The Air'). Nic established Sheep Soup whilst training at the Workshop, with the aim of taking its home-grown, improvisational style out to new venues and audiences.   

As well as directing, devising and writing work on over 100 productions with young actors across the Midlands, Nic wrote Sheep Soup's first show The Curse Of The Devil's Verse which toured Nottingham, Leeds and EdFringe (2011), followed by Mrs Green (2013) and The Leftovers (2018).

 

Currently Nic is composer/lyricist on Sheep Soup's latest musical project Nel's Place, working in participation at Nottingham and Southwark Playhouses, and runs a new workshop for professional actors, Grounder, in South London.

Associate Musical Director

Rob Green

Rob Green (ROB.GREEN) is a singer/songwriter/composer and has been involved as a co-composer with Sheep Soup from their very first production, Mrs Green, transitioning into resident Musical Director for the company. Rob employs a unique and immersive approach to musical direction - composing by ear, coaching vocalists directly to bring out a

natural performance, and songwriting in collaboration with other musicians.

 

As an emerging theatrical composer/MD Rob has already co-written songs and provided musical direction for a wide variety of projects, including; Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Windrush: Movement of the People (co-composer - “God Save Our Dream”), The Frontline produced by Leicester Curve (Musical Director), Nottingham Playhouse’s The Elves and the Shoemaker (Composer/Musical Director),The Leftovers (Musical Director/co-composer), and the Liverpool Everyman Rock & Roll Panto Red Riding Hood in 2023 (Musical director and arrangement). He is currently working on Nel's Place with Sheep Soup. 

Rob is a independent soul/pop singer-songwriter and musician in his own right, with a number of EP releases and an upcoming tour. He has performed at the BBC Proms, is part of the Ivor Novello Academy program, and has supported artists including Earth Wind & Fire, Gabrielle, Roachford and Eric Bibb.

Creative Producer

Ben Welch

Ben trained as an actor at the BAFTA award winning Television Workshop in Nottingham from the age of 12. He co-founded Sheep Soup Productions with Artistic Director, Nic Harvey in 2012 to begin creating work after a successful Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011. 

 

As an actor, Ben has appeared in Off West End musical Mythic in 2018 at the Charing Cross Theatre and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Fat Pearl in Call Me Vicky at The Pleasance Theatre. Other credits include 5 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals (3 with Sheep Soup shows), Jack Rooke: Happy Hour (Soho Theatre) Big Sister Little Brother (Spark Arts) and two years playing the dame in Liverpool Everyman's Rock & Roll pantos. 

 

He has a background in running community based theatre and film projects across the East Midlands and beyond with organisations such as Nottingham Refugee Forum, Curve -Leicester, The Terrance Higgins Trust, University of Nottingham, a variety of schools and pupil referral units as well as regularly teaching at The Television Workshop.

 

He works as a compere/host both as himself and Sheep Soup created character Mrs Green performing at festivals and gig venues across the UK including hosting Notts TV launch, introducing HRH Prince Harry to Nottingham. Ben has worked as a producer of events/films/project across Nottingham since the age of 17 for various organisations and venues. He is now Director of Nottingham’s charity music festival Hockley Hustle and is producing a BFI funded short film over Summer 2019. 

Ben’s work as General Manager and now Creative Producer at Sheep Soup has seen him successfully progress the company from their debut show Mrs Green through to today including 4 successful Arts Council England applications 

 

In October 2016, Ben was awarded the Noble Kahn Award for Championing Diversity within the TV, Film and Theatre Industry.
